Our Studio

We develop nature inspired outcomes that unite the built environment with nature derived aesthetics, at all scales. Our approach to aesthetics is grounded in our fascination with nature's inherent beauty and submissive complexity. Our work introduces fragments from both the built and natural environment into spaces that harmonise their co-existence.

The Fragment, as we describe it, refers to an aspect of the world; rock formations, trees, atomic structures, ecosystems, animals, memories, aesthetics, drawn from the world at a macro and micro scale. We utilise these physical and meta-physical fragments as a foundation for our research, strategy and designs processes.

Design

I

Nature in design

We strive toward a world where nature is plays a pivotal role in the outcomes humanity designs, reducing the divide between what is built and grown.

II

Biophilic approach

With a growing separation between humans and nature, it is evident that our wellbeing is suffering. We tackle this issue by utilising a biophilic approach, integrating nature subtly into the built environment.

III

Grounded aesthetics

What we do is about grounding people with their environment, in manner we as a society can be proud of. Why choose to live in a ugly world when nature has done the work? We are orchestrating the type of environments we desire, why not prioritise aesthetic functionality.

IV

Material harmony

Selection of ideal materials for their intended use case is vital to effective outcomes. Harmonious material selection creates simplicity that often goes unnoticed, contributing to its environment, rather than detract from it.

Principles

V

Structural cycles

We have become accustomed to single use products, at the cost of quality, recycling and upcycling. We believe this cycle impacts society. Our lack of respect for objects has resulted in disrespect toward other human beings. We believe this cycle has to be broken by designing things that can be passed down generations, again.

VI

Human nature

Humans are inherently curious and seek out beauty and nature. Nature is proven to constantly equilibrate, and have significant benefits to ones health and wellbeing. Why not live in a world

VII

Ecology

Ecology for us, means that when working alongside nature we can develop a world where humanity and nature co-exist in harmony, through balanced nature derived processes and outcomes at micro and macro scales.

VIII

Symphonic systems

As a company we are shaped by our methodology toward our outcomes, we believe in an "and" rather than "or" thought pattern. A by-product of this process is harmony is evident in our systems, design and outcomes that make a difference.

Nature is a designer of systems, an artist of simplistic complexity and inherent beauty, and therefore the greatest source of inspiration one could ask for

Materials influence our physical interactions and experiences with the environment, they play a pivotal role in how we feel, perceive, navigate and interact with the world. We understand that materials play a pivotal role in influencing our physical interactions and the experiences we have with our environments.

Our studio works with a wide range of both natural and crafted materials, applying industrial methods and design processes to generate and execute nature centric outcomes, that strive to shift how we perceive, navigate and feel towards the world we build.

Keenan Haagen (b. 2003) lives and works in Melbourne, Australia

His practice is characterised by juxtaposing materials in foreign environments and spaces, with emphasis on materials associations and perceptions. He cherishes forms, patterns and aesthetics found in nature, intersecting nature & design.

Keenan grew up in South-East suburbs of Melbourne, where his interest in the arts began. He attributes this interest in art & nature to his childhood which he spent being outside, always making things and asking question about how the world works.

He received his Bachelor of Fine Art in Sculpture at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in 2024, where he then went on to found his creative studio, focused on producing pieces that intersects the art & design world within his practice of nature inspired aesthetics.
